February 10th Update
February 10th, 2007 by SelfI can not say thank you enough to everyone who has sent their love and prayers to my dad. He is truly adored by so many. Today, February 10th he is doing better than any one else could be in his situation. His vital signs are stable, he has moved his arms and legs, has opened his eyes, and moved his mouth. We believe he hears us talk but is still extremely sedated. He is definitely fighting, you can feel it when you walk in his room. The spinal surgery February 7th began at 9:45am and ended at 3:00 pm, went beautifully. They stabilized his spine with screws and pins from his T-9 to his L-1. He has multiple other fractures throughout his spine and back with a lot of soft tissue torn but miraculously there was no damage to the spinal cord it self. He still has breathing tubes in but is able to breathe on his own. Tubes are draining blood/fluid from his right chest cavity, today the fluid is looking much better and much less bloody:) We are still awaiting facial cranio surgery, maybe 1 or 2 weeks. Multiple fractures and breaks are throughout his face and some of his font teeth are missing but there are no contusions to the brain, another miracle. A friend who drove past the wreck (not knowing it was him in the accident) said it looked like the car hit a telephone pole. For anyone who has been curious, he did not have a helmet on. We got to meet the lady who held Dad in her arms till the ambulance arrived, She is AWESOME and we can never thank her enough for helping save him. I will try to keep everyone updated. Please pray for my dad everyday. My words can not express my love for the love yall share with him.
Thank you, Joe’s daugher, Courtney Self
